Full calendar

MiniRoos (Under 6 - 12)

MiniRoos is a smaller version of football designed to introduce players to the world game in a fun format.

2023 Season

The first game of the season will be played on Saturday, 22 April and the season will finish on Saturday, 9 September (a total of 18 rounds).  Games are not scheduled during school holidays.

What age group does my child participate in?

Players play in the age group according to the age they turn in the 2023 calendar year, e.g. a player who turns 8 in 2023 will participate in Under 8s.

Can my child play outside their age group?

Your child can play into an age group one year above their current age group if required. This is at the discretion of the club and may be necessary due to player numbers or particular player requests and will be considered on a case by case basis.

Players are not able to play into an age level below their age group.

Kangaroo Grading - Under 9 - Under 12

In the Under 9 to Under 12 age groups, Football Queensland runs the competition in three divisions.  In season 2023, we will be offering the opportunity for teams in these age groups to play in the Kangaroo division (the highest division).  More information will be provided regarding this when registrations open.

Girls only teams

In Season 2022 we fielded Under 8, Under 11 and Under 14 all girls teams.  In Season 2023 we are looking to form all girls teams in other age groups and will give girls the option to request to play in an all girls team and, if there are sufficient numbers, we will enter an all girls team in other age groups.

There will be no requirement for girls to enter an all girls team and if they wish to play in a mixed team, they will be welcome to do so.

Under 6 and 7

Under 6 and 7 MiniRoos is designed to allow maximum participation by all players on the team. They are played on small fields, with smaller goals and teams do not play goal keepers. This is the first step for players and it is intended that players develop the basic skills required to play football in a fun and engaging environment.

Four players are on the field for each team at any time. Teams consist of 5 to 6 players allowing 1 or 2 players as substitutes throughout the game. The aim is that all players play an equal amount of time throughout the game.

Games are played in 15 minute halves with a 5 minute half time break.

Oxley United participates in the Football Queensland draw and fixtures are allocated by Football Queensland. Games are usually on a home and away basis on a Saturday morning and games are usually not more than 15 minutes drive away.

Teams usually train once a week at a time determined by the team on muster day at a time to suit most players in the team. Managers and coaches for Under 6 and 7 are parents of players in the team and are provided with support by Oxley United FC.

Under 8 and 9

Under 8 and 9 MiniRoos are played on larger fields than Under 6 and 7. Goal keepers are introduced in Under 8s.

Seven players are on the field for each team at any time. Teams consist of 9 or 10 players allowing 2 or 3 players as substitutes throughout the game. The aim is that all players play an equal amount of time throughout the game.

Games are played in 20 minute halves with a 5 minute half time break.

More information will be provided at the Muster afternoon and at the Coaches and Managers Information evenings at the commencement of the season.
