Oxley Fall Short
Monday, September 13, 2010 at 5:28PM Oxley United ended their season in very unfortunate circumstances, losing 3-0 to third placed Albany Creek who were clearly looking to keep their foot on the gas as they go into the finals series. Although Oxley were desperate for a point, the game was played in very good spirits. Albany Creek led 2-0 at the break through two mind boggling referee decisions, but credit to Albany Creek as they were the creating several chances and seemed to have the upper hand throughout the half. Oxley were by no means being overrun, but they were finding it hard to hit that final ball into the box to cause any serious grief.
The second half was played in the same manner as the first, and with time ticking away Oxley started to create some opportunities, even hitting the cross bar at one stage. However Albany Creek sealed the win with a screaming first time volley from the top of the box which not even Pepe Reina could have saved. No one can fault the effort put in by the entire squad throughout the season, and the boys must pick themselves up, move on and come back bigger and better next season.
On a sour note, winger Aaron Denny went down after 25 minutes with what looked to be a serious knee injury. We wish you all the best for a speedy recovery mate.
I'd like to wish the women's team the very best of luck for their Grand Final this coming weekend, hopefully we as a club can finish the season on a high.
Finally, I want to thank all that have put in so much effort this season which has made our time as players so much easier. If it wasn't for the group of people behind the scenes giving up their time, we wouldn't be the club we are today.
